I believe that God has given each kindergartener a promise for learning and a potential for growth. Perhaps you recall the children’s song I Am a Promise: “I am a promise/I am a possibility/I am a promise/With a capital P/I am a great big bundle of potentiality.” As a teacher, it is my job to help each child fulfill that promise for learning and potential for growth, using a variety of teaching strategies and differentiating curriculum as needed.

In our full-day kindergarten we have a balanced literacy program with an alphabet review, phonemic awareness songs and games, phonics, high-frequency words, comprehension lessons, guided reading, writing, and more. We also study some favorite authors. The kindergarten day also includes Bible, math, social studies, and science, along with time for imaginative play and rest. Specials classes include chapel, library, gym, music, art, and technology.

Throughout the year, we enjoy some special days that are tied to our curriculum. We have a pumpkin day in October, a 100th day celebration in February, a Dr. Seuss week in March, and a teddy bear picnic in the spring, just to name a few. We want to make learning both meaningful and fun!
